Amidst the urban chaos, it stood tall, offering refuge amidst the city's hustle and bustle. Its spacious interior, adorned with exposed timber beams and ancient windows, spoke volumes to its future owner. "I stumbled upon this place by chance. It's an old gem from the 1900s in a bustling street. Many would've turned away, but I saw life in its noise. The constant buzz reminded me of home," explains Juliana Martinez, originally from Bucaramanga, Colombia. ‘After studying law at university, I started my electropop music project under the name ‘Servicio al Cliente’ . Since 2007 I have lived in Berlin and today my daily life takes place in this apa…

House Without Idea by Fala Atelier | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/fala-atelier-house-without-idea/20760289 Mon, 25 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0100 A small house refuses to be banal. three levels play slightly different geometrical games. its spaces are assembled out of small gestures: sloping ceilings, curved and staggered walls, episodic double heights, and lofty chimneys. The ground floor accommodates the main living space open to the garden, concealing the circulation and secondary spaces behind a subtle wall. The middle level is organized around a central hallway from which a spiral staircase takes one to the attic. The house is a collection of episodes and compelling fragments. While the spaces on the three levels are different, colors and coats of paint bring the project together. the house presents an abundance of textures and patterns. White and dark blue stripes cover window shutters, kitchens, and multiple cabinets with their handles slightly exaggerated. A dotted carpet of wooden floor is repeated on every level, serving as another unifying element. Each door has a cut-out of a dark green circle painted on it. Th…

The result is a contemporary home, built with the utmost respect for the local architecture, in a perfect balance between tradition and modernity. The design's intent was to respect the existing building combining it with a strong search for the overall architectural image, as says ACA architect Sebastiano Amore: “many elements of local Sicilian tradition come into play, a few colors and materials are used, and there are many points of contact between old and new. The result is a design mix of forms and colors that dialogue with the historic context and the environment”. In this way, the resin flooring and the original cement tiles intersect, marking the spaces and functions of the different parts of the house. The single-family home is…

Drawing inspiration from the leafy surrounds, the palette of materials has been carefully selected to complement the history, as well as the vibrancy of the area.</p> <p>The distribution of mass and scale pay respect to the existing streetscape context. The dwellings are articulated in an ensemble of individual forms, complementing each other in a rhythm that echoes its surrounds.</p> <p>Conscious design restraint has been applied to each of the three façade designs, to create a base palette of just two materials per dwelling — brick as the constant primary material and a complementary secondary textured material, such as a profiled metal, rusted metal finish or natural timber. The primary brick on the façade informs the front fence and the entry pavement, with the secondary material used on the front door. The freestanding dwellings have been de…

Villa Bianca Apartment by Komon architekti | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/komon-architekti-villa-bianca-apartment/20759364 Mon, 18 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0100 <p>The historical Villa Bianca, designed by architect Jan Kotěra in 1910-11, underwent numerous modifications since its construction. The latest was a radical renovation completed in 2003 according to the project by Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat. The exterior of the villa was restored to a form inspired by Jan Kotěra's original design, but the interior, in contrast to the historical exterior, reflected the turn-of-the-millennium period. No elements from the original era were preserved, except for replicas of mullioned windows in the apartment’s interior, that reminded one of being in an early 20th-century modernist villa.</p> <p>We designed a new interior for the original villa. It is contemporary without a historicising approach, but with the ambition to establish a connection to the historical architecture of the house. We believe that the dialogue between the old and new, in this case between the villa and its interior, can revolve around the authenticity in architecture and the…

The layout, while influenced by the dynamic presence of the convex volume, exudes a tranquil ambiance, owing to the gentle hues of light wood finishes, notably birch and linden. Apartamento Jardim Velho by André Simão & Nuno Bessa | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/andre-simao-amp-nuno-bessa-apartamento-jardim-velho/20759361 Sun, 24 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0100  Located in the historic center of Barcelos, in the north of Portugal, facing one of the oldest squares in the city (the “Old Garden”), this apartment is on the top floor of a collective housing building. Both the irregular plan - resulting from the building's fit into the dense urban fabric - and the multiple sunlight fronts available, served as the motto for the project. The social area of the apartment is a lively open space organized as a game between cabinets or open shelves, the expressionist shape of the ceilings, an organic and curvilinear step, all dancing around a monolithic piece of furniture (used for storage, TV/media stand and bar), which is the gravitational center of the project. In this game of tensions, the protagonism of each element is determined by its shape and also by its color or material (from white and inexpressive wall plans, through blue lacquered wooden panels to large surfaces of natural “sucupira” wood - used on the floor, on the upper part of the ceil…

With this headline, Marion and Paul Franck, a couple with three young children - Leo, Romeo and Zöe - who until then had lived, due to his work in the aeronautical industry, five years in Toulouse, another two in Reunion Island, one in Washington and the last four in London, presented themselves in the studio at the end of 2022. The difference with previous destinations is that Madrid now appears to be the place they have chosen to settle permanently. And they do so by acquiring a 151 m2 dwelling located on the top floor of a residential building constructed at the beginning of the 20th century in the Justicia neighborhood, near Gran Vía and Chueca, in the center of Madrid. With a marked longitudinal character and a floor plan organized around three courtyards, paradoxically, despite being a penthouse, the dwelling does not establish notable links with the surrounding urban profile. The typical tapestry of streets weaving through a chessboard of homes leads to vast plots offering glimpses of the nearby natural splendor. Right here, we found ample space to nurture a concept of a ground-level house seamlessly connected to its garden.</p> <p>Veiled beneath the facade's surface, which defines the house's square footprint, hides an intricate internal structure. Breaking away from the conventional blueprint of a compact house expanded by terraces, an open residential landscape emerges, complete with buffer zones, organically extending the interior spaces towards the garden. The foundation of mutually shifted monolithic walls and glass forms a composition that either opens up or closes in response to the orientation towards cardinal directions, the need for privacy, and connection with the exterior. House MG by DID | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/did-house-mg/20759188 Sun, 10 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0100 <p>A small inhabited space with an old, somewhat decadent building on the outskirts of the city, in a medium-populated residential area, has been completely transformed to become the new home of a very young couple. The project consisted in the demolition of the previous house and the construction of a new highly energy efficient residential building, characterized by large and bright internal spaces, especially in the living area.</p> <p>At a design level, the various constraints given by the specific position of the previous building together with the south and west views characterized by proximity to neighborhood, made the process to arrive at the definitive solution very long and difficult.</p> <p>The clients' request was to live in a contemporary house with a large and very bright living area and a more protected and introspective sleeping one. Therefore the two functions of the home have been identified in two clearly opposite architectures: the living space is open, welcoming an…

The interior design of this house was commissioned by a professional couple, an instrumentalist and an expert in Italian artisanal perfumes. Their working experiences share an instinctive propensity for experimentation that they want to express it at home as well: a space with bold tones that reflects their lifestyle without compromises.</p> <p>The project takes inspiration from the interiors of a historic Milanese nightclub of the 1970s, where the unconventional use of steel sheets was an innovation for the time. The effect of this material convinced the clients from the beginning, both for its reference to the musical panorama and for its ability to manifest itself with shades of very varied colors and shapes.</p> <p>In fact, the black iron walls are characterized by deep chromatic shades that refer to artistic interpretations and invite to concentrate on the beauty of darkness.…

moda five by Mckimm | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/mckimm-moda-five/20759029 Tue, 05 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0100 <p>mckimm present MODA, a contemporary new development in Brighton featuring basement car parking, a boutique supermarket, four first-floor apartments, and a unique penthouse gracefully spanning over levels two and three.</p> <p>Formerly a service station, the 800sqm site was transformed into an old workshop before eventually becoming the mckimm office in 2011. Despite its generous dimensions, the office occupied a mere 180sqm, revealing a pronounced underutilization of the site— a scenario rectified by the introduction of MODA.</p> <p>Our focus centers on the captivating allure of meticulously designed two-story penthouse oasis. Adorned with the epitome of sophistication through carefully selected furnishings by Tigmi Trading, the residence boasts artfully arranged pools of light that delicately illuminate a harmonious palette of soothing neutrals, set against a rich backdrop of travertine and polished plaster.</p> <p>The intention was to create a built environment that felt organic a…

The building was supposed to blend into the landscape and respect local architecture, while also giving a modern impression and meeting the needs of contemporary living.</p> <p>The cottage was built on the western slope of the Pomezní hřeben in the Krkonoše Mountains. The surrounding terrain is sloping, descending quite steeply into the valley, and the land is situated at an altitude of approximately 1000 meters above sea level. The building is located within the territory of the Krkonoše National Park, surrounded by untouched nature without any fences or barriers. On the northern side, the land adjoins a forest. Recognizing the space's initial lack of efficiency and storage, we prioritized optimizing spatial flow and increasing practicality for the young family inhabiting this forever home.</p> <p>Set adjacent to a National Park in Thirroul, this forever home occupied by a young family presented a challenge with its dysfunctional spaces and dominating roofline. However, from its unassuming origin, the simplest idea blossoms into the hallmark of design, becoming the defining element that distinguishes a creation and leaves an indelible impression.</p> <p>Our approach involved a strategic reconfiguration, flipping existing areas to eliminate transition spaces and reclaim valuable floor area. By integrating a galley-style layout and a discreet scullery, we maximized storage capacity while enhancing accessibility and traffi…

The remodelling was supposed to be moderate, respectful, timeless in aesthetics, delicate, and minimalist.</p> <p>The apartment is located in a late Secession building in Prague, but the original interior was surprisingly not decorative. There is a distinctive interior element, the paneling in the bay windows. As part of the remodelling, it was essential for us to make the original valuable elements stand out and sensitively supplement them with new ones. This was also reflected in the layout solution.</p> <p>We straightened the double doors to the rooms on one axis to create an enfilade of four rooms. The new layout creates its residents' own private worlds at the corners of the floor plan, and common spaces are the heart of the apartment at its center. This is how we achieved a natural and reasonable hierarchy of

In order to achieve spatial airiness, the previously separated smaller rooms were merged into larger open spaces – maximizing the common ones where the family spends most of its time together. The children's rooms, on the other hand, are conceived as small, purposeful cells, entered through a large blue Narnia-inspired storage cupboard. The history of the apartment is recalled by a number of original features, such as doorknobs, parquet floors, sliding doors, and the acknowledged original painting in the parents' bedroom. The bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and is also accessible from the study with a small balcony. "The blue wardrobe, and especially the entrance to its bowels, is meant to lead people out of reality into another world, a magical space, to be a filter between the apartment and the children's rooms. The layout modification was only minimal from a construction point of view, but thanks to it the bedroom has its own bathroom niche hidden behind sliding glass. In the vestibule it was simply a matter of moving a part of the wall to create a walk-through wardrobe. Probably the most significant intervention was the connection of the two main rooms, the kitchen and the living room, which are situated facing the street. Upon entering the apartment in the vestibule, there is a built-in wardrobe with oak veneer panelling, which matches the colour and finish of the frames of the original folding doors, which were refurbished. The oak veneer goes around the corner as wall panelling, which hides the sliding door. The same veneer enters the main living space in the form of the high parts of the kitchen. Above these is then…

Atelier Esch by Solarlux | Manufacturer references https://www.architonic.com/en/project/solarlux-atelier-esch/20758075 Fri, 23 Feb 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Architectural photography atelier in Blankenberg The German town of Blankenberg is home to a new, modern office building with striking architecture that’s perfectly suited to its location and purpose. The main feature of the design is a two-story, panoramic opening that looks out over the neighbouring valley, inviting the extraordinary landscape into the building and acting as a “viewfinder” for its natural surroundings – a reflection of the photographic art on display inside. The client – an internationally renowned architecture photographer – wanted to create something new that would also fit in perfectly with Blankenberg’s traditional, village-like aesthetic, which is characterised by half-timbered constructions and quarry-stone walls. Just as importantly, the architecture also needed to reflect the photographic art created inside the building. Architects’ bureau Nebel Pössl managed to achieve both these goals by taking a step-by-step, modular approach to the construction, wo…

Paneled walls, folding screens, and sliding doors equally define the aesthetics and layout, with pieces designed by them completing the promised timeless look. We demolished all the walls of the original dwelling and decided to create a central interior cube from which the rest of the rooms stem. In this windowless space, we placed the bathrooms, storage, a small wine cellar, and two sliding doors providing access to the living-dining-kitchen area, an office, and the three bedrooms, one of them being en suite. This way, when everything remains open, it creates a spacious multifunctional area where the light from the windows reaches every corner. The young family decides to settle here. Generations take turns, however the respect for the work of the elderly remains. A new house is being built on the floor plan of the original chicken coops and sheds. What remains is the language that both generations can speak. The new objects respect the original ones in materials and forms, without fear of today and its needs. The new building and its face, as if here, above the church in Opatová, have always been. They bought the family land, where the grandmother lived and where there was a water-powered mill, warehouses, and barns, and where chickens still roam the yard. The plots are next to a road with a stream running along it. Opposite across the road is a hillock and on it a cemetery where ancestors and perhaps even the miller who once built the mill lie. As designers, our goal is to capture the subtle moments of time and recreate them in the spaces we craft. Humanscapes come to life when memories and lessons learned are molded into dwellings—spaces that resonate with and respect the natural environment around us. The concept of 'Humanscape' took root four years ago when we carved a basement into the natural slope of a residential site. With no preconceived plans, hands worked intuitively to lay the shuttering. Light wells and access points emerged in response to this raw process, with two walls shared with underground water tanks and the other two supporting soil up to half their height. This underground haven, designed with punctures for wind and light, became a cherished space for midday rests, lunch hours, and site meetings due to its exceptional thermal comfort. Observing weather changes, the passing of the day, and raindrops became part of…

Traditionally, furniture and interior photography often shows a completely furnished ambiance, brought to life with numerous accessories and details. Architecture studio blaanc envisioned a harmonious blend of past and present, employing a bamboo centerpiece that ingeniously housed a bathroom and storage. The renovation unfolded, reshaping the once-static spaces into a fluid journey. Curved shapes and edges were intentionally crafted, infusing the interior with an organic elegance. Contemporary design principles dictated the aesthetic, featuring clean lines, minimalistic furnishings, and a neutral palette. Blaanc breathed efficiency into every corner, optimizing space with the bamboo volume cleverly concealing functional elements. As the final strokes completed this revival, the house stood as a testament to thoughtful design. blaanc

Warm Retreat by Forma Arquitectura | https://www.architonic.com/en/project/forma-arquitectura-warm-retreat/20756101 Thu, 08 Feb 2024 00:00:00 +0100 <p>In the heart of Barcelona's Eixample district, we have undertaken a comprehensive renovation of an apartment built in 1900. Starting with its original layout, characterized by dark and narrow compartments, our goal was to transform this space into a versatile and comfortable environment that meets the contemporary living demands while preserving the modernist essence.</p> <p>Due to the change in the way we live and work, the Provença project has been designed as a warm retreat for the long hours we spend at home. The spaces must have personality without becoming burdensome over extended periods. The final aesthetic translates into a warm minimalism, with simple yet evocative design lines, emphasizing earthy tones and wood.</p> <p>The primary challenge of the project, before tackling the space's design, was to preserve the apartment's original architectural elements while enhancing energy efficiency and comfort. This can sometimes seem counterproductive due to the insulation limitati…

Country Villa by Grain Designoffice | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/grain-designoffice-country-villa/20756100 Tue, 06 Feb 2024 00:00:00 +0100 In Schilde in Antwerp (BE), Grain Designoffice was presented with a stripped interior in a thatched roof country villa with the request to transform it into a seductive and appealing interior. Although the original layout of the spaces was respected, the Belgian interior architecture studio worked on customized functionality to suit the lives of the new residents. The villa comprises three floors with a number of remarkable features, such as a state-of-the-art dressing room and a substantial wine room, as well as a cinema room, gym and sauna. Outside, the team additionally installed a pool house. Besides the dialogue between the closed architecture and the open and light-filled interior, Grain Designoffice also focused on contrast in the villa's furnishings. Thanks to the rebellious yet delicate mix of colours, textures, materials and design, the interior was given a certain “je ne sais quoi”. Among other things, you can find Pietra di Medici natural stone combined with American wa…

The apartment is dominated by the main living space, a salon with a carved wooden Renaissance ceiling. The room was divided by a partition at some point in the past. This dividing wall was demolished to free the original space in its entirety. The original wall paint was uncovered and it revealed a deep crimson colour. The determining factor here is the darkness of the surfaces. The wood beam ceiling and the walls feature dark, saturated tones. A dark space embraces people, and it creates an atmosphere of closeness when compared with a light one.</p> <p>From the start, we were intrigued by the investors' approach and enchanted by the atmosphere of the house. We personally know the feeling of falling in love with an old house and settling in it. This process includes struggles and revelations, as well as attuning to the whims of the place. Old houses are often moody. The assignment was to redesign the first floo…

Urban Cabinets Series Renovation by Beatriz Arroyo | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/beatriz-arroyo-urban-cabinets-series-renovation/20755939 Mon, 05 Feb 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Urban Cabinets is a series of housing rehabilitation projects that explore design strategies around the idea of architecture-furniture. In each one of them, a family of furniture-that-turns-into-spaces configures domesticities halfway between these two scales. The furniture grows, becomes XXL, and is thought architecturally. It values the handmade and custom-made material, crafted in small companies, and in its final execution on site, different construction trades from both areas will enter into dialogue.  The second project in the series rehabilitates an open block house from the 1950s in the Retiro neighborhood of Madrid, facing a leafy garden. The original house, which had a terrace, had been partially renovated, eliminating this outdoor space and compartmentalizing the common areas of the house into numerous rooms organized by uses - entrance hall, living room, dining room, office, kitchen, pantry, hallway. The project proposes to unify them, recovering the curved wall of the s…

The outcome of the division distorted the original flat, which enjoyed its access at its center. Now, the access is located at the interior end of the apartment, driving the natural flow towards the exit to a spacious interior gallery room overlooking the big interior courtyard. The existing flooring, consisting of a rich variety of ‘nolla’ mosaics with drawings and colors of great value, was preserved.</p> <p>In a span of just over 6 meters, it was decided to place two bedrooms on the inner part of the apartment, enjoying light and ventilation from two interior courtyards, allowing the living room, kitchen, and dining spaces to enjoy a more generous connection to the backyard. The interior is distributed over three floors around a central courtyard covered by a vault of paraboloid membranes. In 2003, a renovation and extension was carried out which included the extension of the west façade and the roof of the terrace with a pyramidal aluminum structure, thus altering the initial conception of the building.</p> <p>The project provides the museum with a new space on the second floor to house its restaurant and terrace. A dilapidated structure, yet with a charming facade; envisioning a complete renovation meant the building could be tailored entirely to their preferences.</p> <p class="p1">Location was also a non-issue: a southeast-facing urban garden with a view of a church, a walking park, and two beautiful old beech trees meant no concerns about rear neighbors.</p> <p class="p1">The two outdated apartments were transformed into a single-family home, crowned with an additional floor during the renovation. Lovers of Mexican culture, natural materials, vegetation, warmth, and the characteristic craftsmanship of the towns in the state of Michoacán; they wanted a house that had some of these elements in its essence and materiality.  Open gardens to place a vegetable garden, vegetation inside, the warmth provided by natural materials, light and shadow that would bring mysticism to the everyday life of living in their own home. In addition, they required a space like a study-library to hold their documentary and work collection.  A house where the "luxury" is the space itself, the light and the shadow; the natural vegetation of the site and the surrounding context, Eréndira House does not seek to stand out within the site, nor to disturb, it aims to be a part of, to blend in with it. Natural materials and gardens with natural vegetation are the premise that gives life to this project. Something essential…

An essential building which forms are primarily driven by the few spaces it hosts. Therefore, only two volumes are involved in the composition: the first, narrower and elongated, connects to the existing building and houses the entrance and service areas, while the second, the main volume, rises above the rest with the sole purpose of providing children with a new type of space. An original, unexpected, and undiscovered place for them to engage in their activities. Hence, it is natural that, from a spatial perspective, this classroom becomes the most representative space of the project. Locat-ed next to a central highway, the burial mound dates back to the Early Bronze Age and is con-sidered to be the largest and most well-preserved of its kind. In proximity to the archaeological find, an unusual project, the Leubinger Fürstenhügel service station, links architecture, landscape and history. Part of the holistic concept was not only the careful emplacement of the structure within the historically significant surroundings, but also the integration of an exhibition and an ed-ucational path. Both the building and landscape contribute to a calm and restrained aesthetic, so travelers can experience an atmosphere of peace and rest. The architecture also discreetly remains in the background, so that the Fürstenhügel can take center stage as the site’s protagonist. Our proposal for this traditional typology consists of unifying a series of spaces, eliminating distributors and corridors as much as possible, to turn them into programmed rooms. The previous state of the house was organized with an entrance hall and closet, a corridor that led to the bedrooms and the separate kitchen, and finally, a living room separated from the rest of the house facing the exterior facade. The new distribution groups the main programs: entrance hall, kitchen, and living room; eliminating the corridor between them and turning each domestic program into an object with its own identity. Each room in the house is occupied by an object that qualifies the space and makes it function specifically. The main piece in the entrance of the house is characterized by a…

We used 500 white aluminum plates of three different widths (160, 320, and 480) to create a randomized pattern based on my sketches, and simulated a downpour on the facade. The plates were perforated with randomly generated dots and dashes in Morse code, forming a message that awaits deciphering. To achieve the thickness of a real downpour, the aluminum plates were designed with three layers, cascading like a waterfall, and the outermost layer hides a canopy that maintains functionality while preserving visual integrity. Upon entering the lobby through the rain, the downpour continues. I also designed the steel bookshelves in the shape of raindrops, extending the visual vocabulary from the facade to the interior, creating a sense of continuity. To simplify matters, I used the term "steel" to refer to both perforated aluminum plates and steel bookshelves, hence the name "Iron Rain." Singin' in the Rain - The lobby is equippe…

As part of the State Garden Exhibition 2022, the town had the opportunity to reorganize urban areas. The site known as "Am Kronenrain", located between the city center and the redesigned green space "Stadtpark am Wuhrloch", played a significant role in this endeavor. The preliminary urban situation proved to be dissatisfactory with hardly any usable space and a height difference of around nine meters. MONO created a distinctive ensemble – consisting of a parking garage, public space, bridge and tower – which fills the gap and serves as a link between the green space and the town center. Simultaneously, a striking city entrance has been created: the tower can be seen from afar and engages in a dynamic dialogue with the adjacent parking garage. In combination with the connecting bridge structure, it forms a clear landmark.…

The Touring Club Suisse (TCS) recently opened new administrative headquarters in Ostermundigen, uniting 530 employees from six different locations. Excellently designed, the new office concept combines open plan spaces with small offices. Lista Office LO guided TCS through the planning process and supplied virtually all the furnishings for the new offices. The concept The Touring Club Suisse (TCS) recently centralised its administrative headquarters at a site in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Some 530 employees, previously spread over six locations, have now moved into the newly-built offices in Ostermundigen. These offer a total of 566 workplaces, spread over a generous 9000 m² of office space. The previous sites had no consistent interior furnishing concept, as Marin Pavlovic, Head of Real Estate for the Touring Club Suisse, explains. “The furniture at the different locations consisted of a mishmash of…

Julius Café by NAAW | Café interiors https://www.architonic.com/en/project/naaw-julius-cafe/20755041 Wed, 17 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0100 <p>Julius is a small specialty coffee shop in the center of Almaty. The client for the project is ABR Group, which is well known in Kazakhstan for paying great attention to interior design in their projects. The starting point for the Julius Cafe interior concept was a red La Marzocco coffee machine, which the client had purchased long before the project began. We thought building a coffee shop interior was symbolic of the coffee machine. Thus appeared the red door, which reminded us of the iconic Parisian bar Little Red Door and all the other small red accents, including the logo and the identity.</p> <p>The desire to turn this small space into a little "coffee sanctuary" led us to the chamber-like, coffee-and-milk colored wood paneling, ceiling vaults, and brick floor which starts outside from steps and transitions to a bar counter. We used German Feldhaus clinker bricks in the project. The material is strong and hard-wearing enough for a floor covering, but at the same time cozy and…

For the shoes and outdoors business Zubischuhe, Lista Office LO designed an office set-up that fosters communication and brings the stylish flair of the store into the offices too. The concept A company’s image plays a key role in creating a sense of identity and belonging for its employees. Zubischuhe has an open team culture, builds close relations with its customers and is a byword for expert advice and assistance on all things shoes and outdoors. To accommodate the company’s growing workforce, the management team decided to move the offices to separate premises. Before the war, the building served as one of the granaries in the Gdansk Wrzeszcz district and used to serve the nearby Garrison. The granary at Kościuszki Street was part of a larger complex, and it is the only one that has survived. The investors liked this place very much. They wanted to respect its history, hence the idea of referring to the history of the place by applying a functional program assigned by the Investor during the adaptation of the exterior and interior. The exterior structure is under conservation protection, so its character remained unchanged.</p> <p>A new perspective on architecture in the world of medicine. The building of the former granary has been adapted to become the new headquarters of a dental clinic. However, it is not just a place for receiving patients, it is something more. Occupying the end of its street, the urban site is open to three sides, opening to the northern sun while simultaneously needing to overcome the challenges of facing a busy and noisy arterial road.</p> <p>The softly finished brickwork walls shape the new social spaces of the house, creating a sequence of Indoor and outdoor rooms within the remaining boundaries of the site. The dining space, held deep within the walled site is lit by a skylight within the concrete ceiling above. This clarified shaft of daylight defines a central pivot and spatial center within the social nexus of the interior. The continuous motif of the undulating brick walls continues around the house to form the protective side fence that shelters the home from the traffic noise of the busy road while extending around and gently embracing the side of the original heritage home.</p> <p>The shaped end of the new concrete ceiling invites passa…

This house is built for a man who desperately loves dogs. In the beginning, he desired to build a place, not only for him to live, but it must be a place for his dogs to enjoy as much as they want. He also desires to share his happiness and his beloved dogs’ happiness with other dog lovers by accommodating a part of his dog’s house as a hotel where other dogs can share facilities and meet each other in the place, including dog care and salon corner to the back house, and also the waiting area in front of the project for the human who wants to see their beloved dog’s activities during the dog’s treatment program.</p> <p>To reflect this attitude of the client, we started researching the context of the project to understand how the architecture will be configured. Automation is one of the tools that allows for designing responsive spaces. In the Terrace Apartment, the house management system can be controlled virtually through mobile devices or locally through smart keypads or voice commands, allowing you to set different scenarios, from day-to-day to workstations, parties, or cinema. With other houses and apartment buildings pressing around the site, the architectural volume was pushed to the north to take in daylight, ventilation, and greenery of the yard into the living environment by a large glass front southern façade.</p> <p>The layout plan made it possible to preserve the existing persimmon tree beloved by the previous generations. Considering the potential difficulties of going up and down the stairs, the rooms for the older couple were arranged on the 1st floor. The eight cats living with the older couple roam in and outdoors more freely, and encourages the mother to enjoy her hobby of gardening more freely.</p> <p>The younger couple and their child reside on the 2nd and 3rd floors. To avoid the two households being completely separated at the top and bottom, a “stairway-like” structure was designed in the south yard, continuing upward into the building and penetrating the 1st through 3rd floors.</p…

Building Frame of the House by IGArchitects | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/igarchitects-building-frame-of-the-house/20754595 Thu, 11 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0100 <p class="p1">This small architecture is one big room. There is not much separation wall inside, and the floor creates the space, building frame walls and steps. The house is for a married couple. They have vague boundaries between their private and work life. Therefore, they imagine a house where they can work anywhere and where they can sense the presence of each other wherever in the house. With such a lifestyle, rather than having small spaces for compact living, the house was designed to have large air volume and scale, making various interactions of inside and outside space. This led to the idea of the house of frame, which is strong but flexible; it allows a liberal way of living.</p> <p class="p1">The north side wall in the building has skewed to create a space that connects to the adjacent vacant site. Along that wall, the heights and depth of each floor had adjusted throughout the building. These misaligned three walls and 7-floor slabs with different heights and depths overl…

Seorak National Park, renowned for its fall foliage and boulder formations. The building's design is inspired by the boulders' formation and the trees' seasonal transformation, and it aims to capture the ever-changing natural environment. The rocks excavated during construction were recycled and used to fill the front yard with stones and gravel, facilitating and controlling plant growth.</p> <p>The expansive front wall is a barrier for the tenants and opens the front yard. The slightly sheared front wall shifts the perspective of the building with the surrounding landscape, which can be appreciated as one meanders in and around the building. The orange door leading to the courtyard enables the tenants to regulate daylight and visual exposure.</p> <p>The plan layout consists of two rows of three 4-meter-wide spaces, totaling six spaces, with all the necessary living amenities included. The site is located on a corner plot in Bruges. The maximum building envelope steps down on the north side of the plot, in order to connect to the neighboring building, thereby maximizing daylight entering the collective garden (STEP 1).</p> <p class="p1">On the south side, the building block is divided into 2 autonomous volumes that open, on the one hand, to communal parking, on the other hand, to the bicycle shed and collective garden (STEP 2).</p> <p class="p1">Both volumes have sloping roofs and vertical incisions, describing 7 terraced houses for starters, young couples, and singles (STEP 3). Amaluna House by Plan:b arquitectos | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/planb-arquitectos-amaluna-house/20754560 Thu, 11 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Faced with this single-family country house's extensive program, we divided the main spaces into eleven volumes, arranging them irregularly in a lot with a large flat area.  We proposed eight volumes on one level and three on two levels, which adapt to the topography and allow direct access through the hall and secondary access through the kitchen. And although their rotation is erratic, they are all located along a circulation that moves in an east-west direction, leaving the rooms and the dining room facing south and the service spaces facing north.  As in a roll of the dice, the position of each volume in the house is random but follows precise rules. The common areas -lobby, corridors, gardens, terraces- give unity to the house, allowing access to natural light and creating interior gardens.  The three-dimensional irregularity, which allows greater permeability, light access, and ventilation, contrasts with the choice of three façade materials: graphite-colored metal pa…

The design team focused on highlighting the purity of form through the use of rationalist features such as right angles and precise decompositions, creating visuals that integrate with the natural environment's highlights. The goal was to reinterpret the tropical lifestyle of the area, using streamlined and contemporary lines that blend the interior spaces with the landscape. Located in the town of Cerro de San Juan in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, the house is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers breathtaking views of the sea. The architectural design captures the unique qualities of the area and maximizes the sea views from each of its spaces. Its natural topography is as picturesque as a fairyland on earth, which prompted HAS Design and Research to create a unique space that coexists with eternity and spirituality. Hung And Songkittipakdee (HAS) proposed a new design strategy that not only improved the functional spaces but also enhanced the site characteristics through three elements, shell, hole, and void, for a sense of extraordinary living experience in the Forest Villa.</p> <p>On the building's facade, the design uses a sequence of shells to frame the continuous view. These shells strengthen the relationship between the interior and exterior, just like the traditional Chinese gardens, creating rich light and shadow effects and blocking excessive Western sunlight for indoor spaces. In the foyer, a large number of holes create a sense of ambiguity, giving the spaces a free and flowing visual effect. The overlapping holes a…

The existing station concourse from the 1970s was stripped down to its supporting structure, while its lower section was opened up toward the city. In the upper section, the façade was clad with staggered matted pneumatic pillow elements; the corner façade, highly visible in the city, is artistically enhanced with animated light patterns. This new “urban canopy” creates a fluid public space that extends out of the building and into the surrounding urban space, thus connecting the railway station with its larger urban context.
